When asked in a survey from Senator Cory Booker, “What issues are most important to you when picking a 2020 political candidate?”; I chose, “Climate Change”, and also wrote in the little box under “Other”,

“Vegan food choices, clean renewable energy (solar, wind), orchards, gardens and composting at all schools, military bases, public lands, prisons, hospitals, etc to stop climate change, feed needy, lead by example, and teach how food impacts climate footprint. Also grow hemp for oil, seeds, textiles, $. And end war.”

Groundwork & MARC

I had fun going to Meetup events with my friend, Eddie. First we went to “Learn How To Compost” by Lee Dwyer of Groundwork Somerville at Somerville Community Growing Center where we learned about indoor & outdoor composting with about twenty other gardeners. I’ve kept an outdoor compost pile since 1991 and learned from my Dad who composted grass clippings, weeds, leaves, and fruit and vegetable scraps. Then we went to Whole Foods and bought some raw fresh figs which were very delicious! Next we went to Boston University’s Marsh Chapel for a “Vegan Standout” with MARC, the “Barnyard Trio”, and about twenty vegans. The events were posted on Boston Raw Food Meetup and Boston Vegan Meetup.

Pam Popper & Melanie Joy

Dr. Pam Popper’s newest book, Solving America’s Healthcare Crisis, goes beyond diet advice and covers myths about protein, supplementation, the role of genes, and other related issues. Information about how nutrition affects many different conditions and stories of people who have regained their health with diet are included, along with details about issues like public policy, school food, and how to reduce the financial burden of health care for employers. At Dr. Pam Poppers talk, I learned a cool natural wellness tip: “Every hour slept before midnight is like two hours of sleep.” So for example if I sleep from 9pm til 2am that is like getting 8 hours of sleep! Wow! :) She also said that there is a very high percentage of false positives in cancer screenings and overall a very low cancer cure rate from medical doctors but they manipulate the figures to make it sound better. She says to eat fruits and veggies to manage disease. :)

In Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs, and Wear Cows: An Introduction to Carnism social psychologist, Dr. Melanie Joy, offers an absorbing look at why and how humans can so wholeheartedly devote ourselves to certain animals and then allow others to suffer needlessly, especially those slaughtered for our consumption. She explores the many ways we numb ourselves and disconnect from our natural empathy for farmed animals. She coins the term “carnism” to describe the belief system that has conditioned us to eat certain animals and not others. Joe Cross: Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead

In 1990 I discovered I have a secondary food allergy to cooked cow milk, went vegan, began reading about food allergies, and began elimination challenge testing as suggested by my holistic medical doctor, Dr. Ward of Holistic Family Practice, Newburyport, MA. Eventually I found out I have secondary food allergies to cooked milk, wheat, soy, and corn – the four most common food allergens. Two books inspired me to become a 100% raw-foodist on April 1, 1999: Allergies – Disease in Disguise by Carolee Bateson Koch and The Essene Gospel of Peace by Edmond Bordeaux Szekeley.
