My friend gave me some Quenepa (Spanish Lime) from her aunt’s tree in Puerto Rico. OMG! Quenepa tasted so good and had such a juicy soft flesh that almost melted in my mouth! It was sweet and tart. Yum!!! hmmm … sweet&tart … sweet-tart … sounds like sweetheart! :) See also: AURAw.com

Water

WATERWater: For Health, for Healing, for Life: You’re Not Sick, You’re Thirsty! The author, Dr. F. Batmanghelidj, not only believes that drinking water is healthy, but claims it has curative powers. According to Batmanghelidj, most people are seriously dehydrated. He says that symptoms like fatigue, anxiety, or depression indicate dehydration, which may result in serious conditions such as asthma, heart disease, brain damage, cancer, constipation, allergies, obesity, and diabetes. In order to compensate for fluid lost through urination, respiration, and perspiration, Batmanghelidj suggests drinking a minimum of two quarts of plain water daily (not alcohol, caffeine beverages or juices). In addition, a diet consisting of a minimum of 80% fruits and vegetables should be followed along with an exercise program. The author presents a wealth of medical data as well as patient anecdotes that testify to water as a cure for various diseases.

My friend recently asked my opinion of an expensive water-alkalizing machine. I think all water is alkalizing because it neutralizes acidic residues left in the body from consuming cooked foods especially animal flesh. I do use a whole house water filter on my well and a water pitcher filter shown below. For reference I also added some inexpensive “water-alkalizers” that I have not used personally.

NYC

I stayed at the Brooklyn Bridge Marriott in New York City as a Personal Care Attendant for a local quadriplegic family friend on his business trip. He drove us in his van and I brought a lot of fruit since I didn’t know if I’d be able to get to a grocery store in NYC. I helped him mornings and evenings and had the afternoons free. On the first day of spring, March 20, 2012, I took the subway and stopped at Quintessence before I met Noel Vegan Fitness Star near the George Washington Bridge in Upper Manhattan. We did some yoga and Noel showed me some fitness exercises. The next day I met a friend for lunch and we walked around Manhattan. The day after I walked around Brooklyn and took photos including the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, a fruit stand, and some art. Zucchini Pasta (LFRV)

I made this easy yummy Zucchini Pasta in a few minutes. I peeled the zucchini, cut it in half, and spiralized it. Then I chopped up a tomato and some raisins, put them on top, mixed a bit, and enjoyed. Yum! (low fat raw vegan)

Here’s the recipe:

Zucchini Pasta
2 Zucchini
1 Tomato
1/4 Cup Raisins
pinch Spices (Optional)

Peel (optional) zucchini, cut in half, and spiralize.
Chop up tomato and add on top of zucchini.
Chop up raisins and sprinkle on top.
(optional) Sprinkle on spice to taste: oregano, basil, garlic, pepper, etc.
Mix a bit.
Enjoy!

Wild Edible Cherries

Cherries contain anthocyanins, nature’s pain reliever, and melatonin, another natural pain reliever that also helps regulate the sleep cycle! Anthocyanins are also used by the body to help produce amino acids which are used to produce protein. Cherries also contain fiber and lots of Vitamin C, an antioxidant, with anti-cancer properties. Wow! My favorite cherries are wild black cherries that fall into my yard from my neighbor’s wild cherry tree.

Winter Raw Vegan Style :)

I have been living in Massachusetts (USA) my whole life, all raw since 1999, and vegan since 1990. This is how I stay warm during a cold New England winter as a low fat raw vegan. I wear cotton socks, fleece socks, ankle warmers, boots, sweatpants, t-shirt, turtleneck, sweater, hat, mittens, and coat. I curl up with flannel sheets, blanket, comforter, afghan, and my adorable snugly cat while sleeping. When it’s below freezing outside I sometimes use an electric mattress warmer. To seal my pores and keep body heat in, I rub a little coconut oil on my skin. To moisturize drier winter air and help hold heat in the room, I sometimes use a hot steam vaporizer. I sunbathe my face for warmth and vitamin D. Activities warm me up like shoveling snow, house-work, yoga, fitness, and dance. I designed my home with many windows on the south side which produces ten free degrees of passive solar heat on sunny days. I use oil filled electric radiant heaters and will learn how to build solar electric panels and a wind mill. I drink fruit-smoothies and eat warmed low fat raw vegan soup, warm low fat raw vegan raisin oatmeal, lots of raw fruits (bananas, dates, mangoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, wild apples, wild black cherries, etc.), some herbal tea, a little fatty raw vegan food (avocado, seeds, tree-nuts), a little warming raw-foods (cayenne pepper, ginger, garlic), and some mineral rich foods (celery, lettuce, kale).
